Welcome to the North Texas Renewable Energy Group

NTREG History

North Texas Renewable Energy Group ("NTREG") was founded in early 2001 with the mission of public education in solar energy and energy conservation.

Meetings were held monthly at various locations until 2006.  In August, 2006, NTREG ceased to exist as an organization. In mid-2008, NTREG Yahoo Conversation Group participants were asking when NTREG was going to meet again.  Dan Lepinski, Moderator of NTREG's Yahoo Conversation Group, took steps in late 2008 to restart NTREG.  Meetings resumed in September, 2009.  27 people attended the re-start meeting, and participation has been increasing steadily ever since.

By 2016, NTREG meetings had grown to 35-40 attendees. Today, we average 50-55 people per meeting depending on the topic and time of year.  Our largest meeting to date occurred December of 2015, when 88 people attended.

NTREG's Solar Tour, as part of the American Solar Energy Society National Solar Tour, also grew. In 2009, NTREG member Paul Westbrook listed six homes for the DFW Metroplex Tour on his personal website. By 2015, the list (now on the DFW Solar Tour website) had grown to more than 50 homes and commercial sites, making it the second largest "Tour" in America.

According to the Texas Solar Energy Society, the North Texas Renewable Group is now the largest and most active Chapter of the Texas Solar Energy Society in Texas.

NTREG partners with the North Texas Electric Auto Association in its meetings, which are held the second Saturday of each month in north Dallas.
